There is an incredible history of stone masonry in the Carmel-
Monterey area.
Driving along 17 mile drive in Pebble Beach you can’t help
but be impressed by the stunning stone work on several different
homes. The roots of this work goes back to European families migrating
to our California shores and bringing with them the rich knowledge
and tradition you see in European Castles, Cathedrals and cobblestone
roads.
Generations of the masonry knowledge: from the foundation design,
to dressing and cutting the stone, to the basics of hod carrying,
have been passed down from family to family, and many of the same
families are still working in the area.
In the early years, three stones
played a significant part in creating these magnificent structures. “Carmel
stone” has
been the stone most often used
through the years, taking the lions share of the jobs. Golden
granite, from Pebble Beaches own local quarry, has been used
extensively throughout the area. River rock from various California
Rivers has also been used in several jobs.
Today our world is getting smaller and smaller with the presence
of the internet, architects, and designers creating more choices
for everyone. We now are seeing stone used from across the United
States and the world, circling back to the homelands of the first
masons that came and built these mansions.
At Antolini Company we are providing a wide variety of quality
stone from across the globe. Come visit us and let us help you
create your masterpiece.
Warmest Regards,
Jon |
